Search Engine of the Day: Audiobaba!
Audiobaba is a next-generation music search and recommendation engine. Unless you know the name of the song you want, searching for music can be a pretty pathetic undertaking, because there really is no better way to describe a song than “da da dee da da da.” But you can try Nayio - the ‘humming’ alternative search engine - you literally hum the song into your mic! And rather than using text to search for music, Audiobaba searches for music by fingerprinting the acoustic and impossible to articulate qualities of every song in its database and searches through them acoustically.
What makes Audiobaba different?
Instead of using the old methods of keywords, genres, and metatags, they rethought the musical paradigm. With text, the name of the game is to find what you want. With music, the idea is often to discover new things. Instead of just returning the song you want (it does that anyway), it actually returns songs that sound similar. A similar alt. to try might be LivePlasma , another music recommendation site - with very cool graphics.
What’s in a name?
This one’s pretty easy I think, if you’ve ever heard of ‘Open Barley!’ (Read the whole story!)
