Yesterday, I threw up a quick
post about an alternative search engine from Russia that was suggested in a
comment to another post: dialogus. I said that I didn’t know anything about it;
but today I do, thanks to Sergey M. [The font may be a little funky due
to the English translation]
This is an “alt” that you would want to compare to the likes of Accoona, Lexxe,
Hakia, SurfWax, and CognitionSearch. These are the “Semantic;” “Meaning-based;”
“Natural Language Processing (NLP);” “Q&A;” projects that want you to be able to
type a regular question (How far is it to Pluto?) in the search box, and get back
a meaningful answer.
Here are some comments from Sergey about his project: dialogus.ru:
This is a rough English translation from their Russian brochure.
Dialogus.ru is aRussian semantic search machine, which provides direct answers
to users’ questions. The search machine is a working, conceptual Q & A system.
At the moment, the basic data base is based on university, encyclopedic, and
educational resources, and in Russian, and some foreign languages. The criterion
of search is the reliability of sources and of the information.
Criterion for delivery of results - simplicity and clearness of visualization.
Please note the summary of characteristics here:
Extraction of answers, facts, ideas, citations.
Increase in efficiency, accuracy and convenience of search.
Building of the creative environment for the user.
The tool for promotion of the goods and services for manufacturers.
The assistant to the users of systems of electronic trade.
Research and creation of products in the field of AI.
Sociological service for research of interactions.
The system predicting behavior of the user.
As a training tool for children.
