Around the World in 80 weeks: Iceland
Yes, you heard me right, beautiful Iceland! AltSearchEngines is “Going Global” in a serious way, and we invite you to join us.
First, 10%, or 10 spots, on the monthly “Top 100″ list are now dedicated to International search engines. Of course the major search engines have International versions for almost every imaginable country, but we mean truly alternative, or independent, search engines.
And speaking of the Top 100, two of the six “Search Engines of the Month” have been Russian based search engines; Quintura and Dialogus.
Secondly, every Saturday is devoted to International Alts as part of our “Around the World in 80 weeks” series. For 80 weeks we will take you to 80 different countries to see what’s really out there in the world of search engines. So far we have been to India, Russia, France, and South Africa!

We’re just not paying, that’s all. We are recruiting bilingual volunteers from around the world to help us find and understand these eclectic treasures! So far we have assistance in Russia, Romania, China, and France. That leaves us with only 76 counties to go. For example, we have started files for Germany, South Korea, Japan, and many others, but there is just one hitch; we can’t read them!

Skoda Ad
As for our Search Engine of the Day, Zniff truly is the search engine for Iceland. The search box (shown below) can be translated into English, Danish, Swedish, and Icelandic, but the results are from their database of 10 million Icelandic web sites. The “search the entire web” option is not live.
The sponsored ad (above, right) had me going for a minute, until I clicked on it; it’s a dummy ad! Zniff has not begun to sell ad space yet. But the ad for Skoda dealerships in Iceland is from an actual search query, so the Icelandic results are real.
