Extra! Extra! Reader suggests four more Alts!
Yesterday I posted four alternative search engines that came to our attention via the readers comments. Today, another reader, “V.M.” suggested four more. Two are already familiar to me, but two are not. Maybe you’d like to check them out and give us your opinion of them!
Killerinfo is a basic MetaSearch Engine that searches Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Lycos. It has a nice tab that groups the URLs together according to their domain, .com, .net, .org, etc., including country domains.

Sproose provides user generated search results to give the power of ranking to the user. Other search engines rank web pages based on the number of pages that link to a page, but such links can be bought by companies or reflect the opinion of a web-master. With Sproose, the users have control over the search listings where they can vote on a page up or down.

Qube is the third generation desktop client providing browserless access to information from the collective index of traditional search engines. It features an RSS Feed Reader, Advanced History Logging, Spell Checker, Dictionary and more. Caution: this application requires a download.

Surfwax: When you enter search criteria and click the Search button, titles matching your search criteria will appear in a frame to the left. Click on the magnifying glass to the left of the title to get an intelligent summary (SiteSnap) of a page. The SiteSnap can help you determine if you want to link to the page, it lets you add FocusWords to your search, and you can save your SiteSnaps to your InfoCubby for future use or to share with others.
