 Why worry about Digg?

1) Quick links / a burst of traffic

2) Repeat business from bookmarking sites (del.icio.us)

3) Sales - when they get to your site (if you’re after sales).

The Top 10 Tips for using Digg:

Tip #1 - know your audience, which means know the Digg audience, what they like and what they don’t like (example:  they don’t like Bush, but they do like Ron Paul).

Tip #2 - Know the Digg slang. Quiz - do you know what RTFA means?

Tip #3 - Lists work.  Yes, they still do.  Lists still work.

Tip #4 - Before Digg, get your content on a trusted blog.

Tip #5 - Be creative.  Easier said than done, but creativity is rewarded - big time.

Tip #6 - Diggers like cool pictures, videos, and images/graphics.  And it’s mostly male.

What your Digg summary looks like is huge.  The title text and format really matters.Use “10″ (numerals) instead of “ten.”  Use Capitalization and punctuation, brackets, etc.

Tip #7 - Don’t just put up a Press Release or put someone else’s content on your site.

Tip #8  - Clean up your landing page.  Remove the junk and the clutter.  Get it ready for your visitors.

Tip #9 - Write a good description.  Be personal and opinionated.  For many people, this is all that they will read;  they may not even click through to the full article.  Caution: someone else may submit your article first with a terrible Title and Description!

Tip #10 - Choose the right topic from the Digg categories.  The best that you can.

A successful Digg post then spreads to other influential sites, precisely because they saw it on the Digg homepage.  Having it picked up by an influential blog is the real goal!

And finally, the Big Bonus Tip: Have Good Hosting!  Be prepared for the traffic, confirm that you are prepared for the traffic, and then be certain that your hosting company is prepared for the traffic!
