Clusty introduces new “Skating the Internet” fad!
When Bethlehem, PA gets their new skate park could depend on surfing, er, skating the Web. Residents can now support the City of Bethlehem with every search!
How does it work?
Clusty has partnered with the City of Bethlehem to bring you bethlehem.clusty.com that will earn money for their skate park project every time someone uses the site to search the Web. How much money? About 1.2 cents per search (better get started!).
Also, the city will launch a marketing blitz to steer people to use the Web site rather than other search engines such as Google or Yahoo! to do their everyday searches. And that’s not all - city officials will be asking the Bethlehem Area School District and other institutions, like Moravian College and Lehigh University, to make the Web site its default search page.
Clusty, run by Vivisimo of Pittsburgh, PA, has had pilot programs with area nonprofits, such as parent-teacher organizations and schools, that resulted in several thousand dollars for those organizations. Now, the search engine wants to take it to municipalities.
Raul Valdez-Peres, CEO of Clusty, said Bethlehem would be the first to use the technology as a way to fund a capital project. ”I guarantee it,” he said of Bethlehem being the first. The National League of Cities spokeswoman Laura Sweeney also said her organization knows of no other city in the country that has a similar initiative.
