I believe that the symbolic dimension is the Myths of the Labyrinth as well as Sisyphus. At the center of your search is a Minotaur who will eat you alive so keep searching as the alternative is to find what you seek and to be consumed. The Myth of Sisyphus is the guy who must roll a rock up a hill. As soon as it gets to the top it rolls down again and again and again. So one way or another your addiction symbolically speaking sounds like lots of fun from which you will be condemned for all eternity,.
