Search Guitarati - feel the music, feel the color!

So, Guitarati, what is your way of Music Discovery?

We believe that music comes straight from and to the heart. When an artist is performing, she is pouring herself in the music. You and the music are in sync when it strikes a chord with you, when the emotions and feelings in the music resonate with yours. Emotions or feelings can not be expressed in mere words - so when we talk about discovering music through moods, tags etc, we are at a very broad level. Just as an example, a picture is worth a thousand words, but a thousand words can not make the picture. To narrow down to the music (or any art) that we like, we need an intuitive way rather than a logical way.

To explore the intuitive way, we just have to establish a way of communication with our intuition and let it express itself in some way. We believe that every feeling, emotion or memory evokes a color or a pattern in everyone. You do not have to actually see it, but just feel it. This is a means to establish the channel. When we bring the two - color and music together, we create a way of expressing our feelings and emotions in a perfect intuitive way.

So that’s the Guitarati way! Every song is represented by a dominant color. The color of the song is what the majority feels it is. When you want to get to a perfect song, you just have to reach out to your emotions and feelings and find a color. Poof, you will be directed to the right music that resonates with your feelings! And while you are at it, go ahead and add your color to the music too. Fun and easy, no?

Is there really any relation between Color and Music?

Yes! Actually the color-music relationship is a concept that has been around for centuries. There is a color for every mood, every state of mind you are in. And so is music! Every musical note evokes a color at some level and vice versa. It is just that we never explore (at least not all of us) to visualize colors for every sound heard. There are people who can actually visualize a color for every note and they are called Synesthetics. Scriabin, the late Russian composer is a famous example of being one. Even Sir Issac Newton explored this subject of color-music relationship.

Do I have to be a synesthetic to use the website?

No. That was just an example to illustrate color-music co-relation. We only want to establish a way to listen to yourselves. You do not have to actually ’see’ the color, but just know it.

This sounds like work! And I have never tried it before.

There is always a first time. But it is not difficult at all; it is just like learning to ride a bicycle. So from now on, whenever you hear any music, try to feel a color. Do not force to see, but just let it occur to you. It might sound hard initially, but once you know how to do it, you are in for a surprise!

If every note evokes a color, what color do I pick up the for song?

The color of the song here denotes the dominant color the song evokes across its play length. This will be chosen according to the number of people who have colored the song till now. You can color the song anytime it is playing or even multiple times while it is playing.

How do I find the songs that I want?

Relax for a moment and ‘feel’ what you want. Let a color occur to you that evokes this feeling. Thats it, just click on the color (or the nearest color) that just occured to you. You will find the songs that others have ‘felt’ the same about.

I live by examples! Give me one.

Ready? Visualize a color for what you feel for Richness. Now feel the color of what you call Purity. Did you think of Red/Black for the first and White/Yellow for the second? That’s what we are talking about here. If a song evokes that ‘rich’ or ‘pure’ feeling, it will be tagged with these colors and you will find one too if you click on these colors. We all are tuned to associate a color with a feeling!
