If you want to find out how much a 1990 Vintage Cheval Blanc costs and where to buy it, Wine-Searcher will get you there.

Type in the name of the wine, the year, and the country, and you’ll get a list of the prices available. Or, if you just want a list of every wine selling from 1958, you can do that, too.

The search engine has two services for its users. The “Free-for-use” helps you purchase a wine that is proving hard-to-find, though only results of wine stocked by one of Wine-Searcher’s sponsors show. The message “Use the Pro Version to view all results” displays when the results have been limited in this way. The subscription “Pro Version” locates the best prices and shows all the suppliers for your chosen wine and not just the sites sponsor stores. Accessing the Pro Version costs $29.95 (USD) per year, and includes searches by bottle size, prices in previous years, and tracking your purchases across multiple stores.

Based on the feedback Wine Searcher gets, the site removes any wine merchant with a poor service history. Users are encouraged to let them know about problems by using Contact Tracking. The good news is that anyone who uses the sight to purchase wines does not pay Wine Searcher any commission. The transactions are between the user and the merchant. We do not receive any money from such sales.

As for wine merchants and brand owners, they can also use the site as a hub to attract more visitors to their own websites. The search engine attracts half a million visitors each month and over 55 million pageviews per year. To merchants, they offer
a. Sponsorship – For premium coverage and banner ads.
b. Button Ads – For high frequency monthly promotions.
c. Email Ads – Any wine-seller can be included in their outbound emails.
