Conversation - Seek = IRSeeK

Technical problems sometimes need creative solutions. The problem with creative solutions is that they’re hard to think of on your own. The good thing is that it’s easier to find someone else’s creative solution by looking at the conversation that led to it. For that, there’s IRSeeK.

IRSeeK utilizies the power of the people on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) and brings it to the rest of the community to enjoy and learn from.

By constantly archiving active, highly-focused, public chat-rooms in a wide variety of topics, and then indexing, processing and publishing the content on the web they are creating an interesting knowledge base.

Case in point, I used an old problem I was having with DVD region codes on my laptop. Since I have DVD’s from both the American and European regions, I have to change the code on my DVD player whenever I feel like watching a different one. Problem is, I can only switch it so many times, and then short of having two laptops set to two different codes, I’m in a rut. So I searched “region code” on IRSeeK, and found a few conversations. What follows is a section of some people talking about just my problem.

When searching, inside the conversation window, you can highlight a certain user (or users), by clicking on their nickname in order to help you track a certain conversation. Furthermore, if you would like to hide (or unhide) a certain user (or users) from the conversation, simply click on the tiny person icon to the left of the nickname you would like to hide (the list of users is narrow window on the right hand side).  IRSeeK indexes chat for 7 years, and is currently looking for staff to help it expand its operations and efficiency.
