Shopping Green at shop search engine Greenzer
Love the color green? I’m color blind and I still do, which is why the new green shopping alt Greenzer is exciting even for me. Listen to this from Greenzer’s founder and President Jeremy Arditi:
“Greenness is becoming an increasingly significant factor in consumer purchasing decisions and one that is new to most consumers. Greenzer’s product filtering system will help consumers break through the growing clutter of green information in the marketplace. Our objective will be facilitated, in part, by CI’s commitment to making eco-labeled products accessible to shoppers.” CI stands for Channel Intelligence, the company that ’s helping Greenzer filter and rank its search results.
Founded as a shopping engine focused solely on green products, Greenzer presents product and retailer information so consumers can shop confidently knowing that products listed are environmentally friendly. Working behind the scenes, CI provides the technology to identify the eco-labeled products based on attributes such as ENERGY STAR qualification, industry-approved certification marks by the Green Electronic Council through EPEAT (the Electronics Products Environmental Assessment Tool), and other green product attributes.
Certain product types and categories are also inherently greener than conventional alternatives. For instance, rechargeable batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), and reusable water bottles all have distinctly lower environmental impacts compared to their conventional counter-parts - disposable batteries, incandescent light bulbs, and plastic water bottles, and Greenzer takes this into account aside from government qualification lists.
Greenzer also has a few other interesting applications, like the Greenzer Score, which is an algorithm that leverages ratings and certifications from third party groups. Products listed on Greenzer have met the minimum green filtering criteria so low scoring products are still green products. The Greenzer Score aggregates leading data sources of environmental performance, information, and statistics on a variety of products and brands. Each score takes into account ratings and certifications related to both the product itself as well as the brand of the product. We aggregate the ratings and certifications from these third parties to create a 1-10 score for products in a given category.
