The First Ever Solar Powered Search Engine
Of the many environmental search engines researched on AltSearchEngines, this one is the first that is, itself, in essence and operation, environmentally friendly. That’s right – GreenPlanetSearch is actually solar-powered, as is its host, AISO. Talk about practicing what you preach! It is also the very first entirely flash search engine I’ve ever used, which makes for some truly nifty graphics.

And the folks at GreenPlantSearch.com have more in their sights than just a powerful, eco-friendly search engine. Though they’re just starting out and are a small team-of-two, the GreenPlanetSearch.com vision is to create a “green community”; i.e., a network of individuals, institutions, organizations and corporations who share a common desire to promote a more environmentally responsible lifestyle through establishing relationships between these like-minded groups. GreenPlanetSearch wants to connect these groups by providing strictly environmentally-relevant content: educational events, blogs (available on website 09/15/08), products and services all geared toward the greenminded. Upon visiting their website, they want the individual to be presented with an array of enviro-relevant tools and features, such as forums, news, world events, and lists of environmentally responsible companies.
GreenPlanetSerach also has a Resource Section geared towards educators, offering a selection of educational labs and experiments for students ranging from kindergarten through college. They will soon launch four new educational sections. GreenPlanetSearch.com will also post future world events.
As for the search engine part of it, simple searches find some good material. For example, a search for “green home products” yielded this:

These sent me to various shopping and informational sites where I can buy environmentally friendly office materials and home gear. GreenPlanetSearch.com has a ways to go, but as a startup, with its flash interface and solar-powered design, they may be up to something important.

I like this site. Their results are limited, but very on target. I like the self-sustaining thing (their engine & server). Very greening!
