Mamba mia! The Russian online dating scene

The leading Russian web mail and portal Mail.ru is expanding its presence in the Russian online dating market. The portal acquired 30 percent in its partner, online dating platform for $15 million from the Russian investment holding Finam, according to Quintura blog. Mamba has some ten million registered users of which 1.5 - 2 million visit the site daily. The company reported revenues of more than $9 million in the first half of 2008, up 68% from the first half of 2007. Finam bought out Mamba in October 2005. Mamba also provides its online dating platform to the other Russian web portal and search engine Rambler.

In spite of the fact that Mail.ru uses the leading Russian search engine Yandexto power web search results on its portal, the company also operates its own search engine GoGo.
